Germany Seeks to Delay Ski Resorts Opening Amid Covid-19

After speaking to regional leaders earlier, Chancellor, Angela Merkel, said. “I will say this openly that it will not be easy, but we will try,”

The country has extended its partial lockdown Until December, 20th as part of the safety measures and to avoid further spread of the Virus.

Since some of the early European Coronavirus Hotspots were at the Ski resorts, helping in the spread of the contagious disease across the continent.

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has already supported delaying the start of the ski season but has stressed the need for a European solution

“If Italy decided to shut down all its ski lifts without any support from France, Austria, and the other countries, then Italian tourists would risk going abroad and taking the contagion back home,” said in an interview.

Since Christmas and New, Year breaks are close, and many Italians head for the holidays and ski resorts are a vital part of the European Economy.

Also, President Emmanuel Macron Made it clear that the Ski resort would stay shut until the New Year.

So skiers can head towards Switzerland for their winter breaks, as it is not part of the European Union, and unlike other Alpine destinations, and its ski resorts are already functional.
